Ahoy, ye scurvy dogs!

Scurvy Dogs

May 28, 2008

The day dawned without fail, and it was time to head out to Tombstone!

We got sidetracked for a bit at the White Sands National Monument. I had heard the name before but never made the connection....until today.

Shoes Dunes

We paid the entry fee and drove in among the dunes. The shoes thought it was pretty spiffy.

The sand got a little hot on their feet so we moved them to the trash can made of recycled plastic products. They thought that was cool.

Shoes on the Dune Can

Beanie was more adventurous than I was today. She was also wearing boots and had a better chance of not killing herself on the trail. If you look closely, you can see her up there.

And then we headed out for Tombstone. We stopped for lunch at a weird place that had a penchant for large figurines in the dining area.

Burger Shoes

Here are some total strangers who agreed to pose with the shoes. The grandson wanted to crawl away and die but he had to comply because Grandpa bought him that soda.

Strangers in Wilcox

We stopped in Benson to see The Thing. It's some sort of pretend mummy that is part of a super strange museum of random things like typewriters, blankets, cars, and torture chambers.

And then it was off to Tombstone where Rosie and Art were waiting for us! We parked the truck and hugged our friends. Zipper has a war wound from tussling with the other kitties, and Beanie and Rosie assured Art that Zipper will be fine in a few days.

I swear, I have never seen anyone SO in love with a cat as Art! He is like a doting grandpa with his first grandchild. Zipper eats it up, of course - loving every minute of it.

It was so good to see our friends! We caught up on all the news and had some dinner. Then, it was off to hear Rosie sing. There will be a video of her uploaded to the internet soon.

We had not gone too far tonight when Beanie tripped on the sidewalk and went splat into the dirt. She scraped herself up and put a gouge in her hand. She also banged her ribs. Up until today, we had been injury-free. Methinks she is going to be stiff and hurty in the morning.

We will be putting some more form to the Great Javelina Hunt we are having in October. We are talking to several different restaurants about catering and getting more specifics about where to hold the workshops, etc. It will be completely amazing!

We didn't see any javelinas tonight, but I turned off the air conditioner so I can hear them if they make noise in the middle of the night.

Oh, and here is a random photo I missed the other day when we visited the largest cross on earth. There are 14 stations of the cross around the perimeter, and this one caught my eye because of the headgear. You all know I much I love headgear - pirate scarves, candy buckets, and foil swans.

THIS guy has the best headgear. He is supposed to be a Roman soldier, but I think he looks like an Aztec. Anyone agree?
