So.......Last night's scare was more disturbing than I imagined. As I thought about it more, it was very much like something out of a Stephen King novel. Every time I looked in my rearview mirror, I saw monstrous headlights bearing down on me. When we got to the first red light, he pulled up beside me and waited for me to pull ahead when the light turned green. Then he dropped back behind me again and pulled more shit. The right turn from the left lane directly in front of me was an act of pure lunacy. He did that through a very crowded intersection - full of cars and pedestrians. There is also a senior citizen high-rise on the corner.
And no, I did not get a plate number. No, I did not call the police because I had to have two hands on the wheel to handle the driving required. And no, I never got the name of the company. When he blew around me at the intersection, I was just glad to be unscathed. I didn't even see the name on the side of the truck.
Why I was his target is beyond me. There were lots of proms in the park last night, and as he followed me on the smaller park roads, I knew he was irritated because I went slowly around the limos and the kids in formal wear. Limo drivers were standing in the street, etc. It was not a night to zip through the park. Plus, there was a circus on the corner that had just ended and the parking lots were emptying. I drove with caution, and that caused a maniac to terrorize me for almost two miles.
But everything is fine now. I was once in the back of a small station wagon that was forced off the road in the middle of the night. That was far worse than what happened last night, but the potential for really hurting a lot of people was far greater last night.
So, today is another chance. I am grateful.
