So……Tombstone is shaping up to be quite the Javelina Hunt of 2008! If you don’t know what this is all about, please check out the official site - javelinahunt and sign up now! Rooms are booking fast. We are not the only game in Tombstone that weekend, so we have to SHARE.Some people have voiced concerns over the $150 registration fee. Well, folks, we simply cannot do this for free. We are offering five different workshops, a reception, breakfast every day, a lunch, two shows, a chance to explore Tombstone attractions, a dinner theatre experience, a sing-along/read-along with a real campfire, and a chance to "hunt" javelinas through the streets of Tombstone whilst holding aloft giant burning marshmallows. If you paid for these events ala carte, it would cost a LOT more. Especially the giant marshmallow part. On the open market, that event costs THOUSANDS of dollars!
So who put this whole thing together? It was a group effort that was born one night last November while eating cheesecake in a local Tombstone eatery. Since we had so much fun hanging out and talking shop for a weekend, we decided to expand our vision and have a real conference!
Who are we?
Well, the steering committee is: casa-rosie and cocoabean and me. Our webmaster is Mr. Art. We are a small but determined group. We are determined to have fun and learn something along the way. We are determined to have experiences that enrich lives. We are determined to build community with other diarists of all styles and experience. And we are determined to make enough money to pay for this event AND seed another conference next year. We are open to all who want to come play in our sandbox.
Who is moderating the workshops? Ahhh! We have "contracted" with other diarists to help with this. Clues are: a sage and professional writer from New York, a feisty red-haired artist from Minnesota, and a tool-wielding roof dweller from Pennsylvania. Sound good? Official names will be announced soon.
So yes, I am plugging this event because I believe in it. I have hung out with other journalists for quite some time now, and it is more fun than should be allowed by law!
And that is the end of my sales pitch….for now.
